Between December 2016 and May 2017, at least 50,000 text messages between FBI agents were reportedly missing. Now, the US president Donald Trump believes that the tech giant Samsung has something to do with it.

Trump tweeted Tuesday night, referencing text exchanged between a former lead agent Peter Strozk, and attorney Lisa Page. The agent previously worked on the Special Council investigation which is responsible for the Trump-Russia collusion.

14 hours later, Trump tweeted:

Where are the 50,000 important text messages between FBI lovers Lisa Page and Peter Strzok? Blaming Samsung!

It was Strozk who called Trump, in a 2015 text message to Page, Trump “an idiot.” He was first assigned to the Robert Mueller-led investigation and was then transferred to the team working on the potential Trump-Russia ties. He also had a number of text messages on Page, criticizing Obama Attorney General Eric Holder and Bernie Sanders.

Page, on the other hand, was believed to have been moved out of the Special Council division. She returned to regular FBI tasks sometime in September last year.

The FBI-provided phones – all of which were Samsung-branded – are said to have faced issues following a software glitch. This resulted in the permanent deletion of five months’ worth of FBI messages, from Dec. 14, 2016, to May 7, 2017.

As of this writing, both Samsung and White representatives have yet to comment on the ongoing issue.
