New Overwatch Animated Short Rise and Shine is A-Mei-Zing!

Animated shorts have been since played an integral role in keeping Overwatch popular. They help players have a better understanding of the lore and its characters. Now, a brand new one has been added to the portfolio.

Blizzard just released a new Overwatch animated short titled Rise and Shine. This time, it features the ice queen Mei and one of the game’s map Ecopoint: Antarctica. More importantly, it discusses the history of the Endothermic Blaster and Snowball, Mei’s cutesy robot sidekick.

According to PVP Live, the new short premiered during Blizzard’s presentation at Gamescom.  Here is everything about it in a nutshell.

Mei and her Endothermic Blaster

Before Overwatch began, Mei and the rest of Ecopoint: Antartica went on a deep cryo-sleep. This was after they lost almost all their resources. Unfortunately, it was on her who woke up from the
hibernation. She later found out that the team had already disbanded while the outpost started to run out of power. Ecopoint was where anomalies were being closely monitored. And since Mei was the only one awake, she needed to find a way to relay the data.

Mei knew that no help can be expected from the team, as they all went their separate ways. Eventually, she noticed a small signal coming from Overwatch. She thought someone was still there and that she just needed to find a way to communicate. Mei decided to build the Endothermic Blaster, but the station had no power to provide. Thanks to Snowball – the robotic assistant – Mei was able to complete her pistol. But the completion cost Snowball its life, as its battery was used as replacement.

She then used frost blast to build a wall she could climb into. The moment she stepped into the satellite tower, signal was reached. And yes, Winston was still out there. Mei then set out on a
mission to relay the global anomalies to the ape scientist and other surviving members of Overwatch.

Snowball is alive!

For anyone who got sad for Snowball’s passing, there’s no need to. You see, Mei was able to build a solar panel which she then used to power up the robotic assistant.

Rise and Shine is the latest installment in the Overwatch animated short series. You can watch it below:
